In line with Singapore's push to establish itself as a major hub for petrochemical refining as well as energy trading, two dedicated conferences will join this year's lineup of events at the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) from 31 October – 4 November 2011.
Held over four days of ministerial addresses, roundtables, master classes and in-depth workshops, Downstream Asia and EMART Asia will bring together key players in the refining and energy trading space, and will greatly contribute to the established SIEW event. SIEW is an annual platform for energy professionals, policymakers and commentators to discuss energy issues, strategies and solutions. In 2010, SIEW attracted over 14,000 participants from more than 60 countries.
Lawrence Wong, Singapore's Energy Market Authority Chief Executive, said: "Singapore is one of the world's leading commodity hubs and Asia's top oil trading centre. We see growing opportunities in this area of energy trading, with the development of our first Liquefied National Gas (LNG) terminal, as well as the expanded base of energy and commodity products being traded in our exchanges. We are therefore very pleased to incorporate EMART – a leading energy trading event – as part of the SIEW this year, and to have the continued participation of Downstream Asia in the SIEW."
"We are pleased to bring EMART to Singapore", says Frank de Kruijff, Chief Executive Officer of Clarion Events in Asia. "Singapore is a key hub for energy trading which has been further bolstered by government incentives, relocation of major energy traders to its shore, and development of more fuel storage facilities in this region. EMART Asia will be an integral part of our global EMART series where we typically attract well over 1.000 attendees for our annual European edition."
Mustafah Abdullah, Project Director of the World Refining Association, said: "The timing of Downstream Asia could not have been better. Refining margins are expected to pick up over the next year, with less new refining capacity coming on-stream this year on the one hand, and increasing oil demand on the other. We are delighted to be a part of SIEW and to be given this opportunity to contribute to Singapore's oil and gas sector."
This marks the second time Downstream Asia returns to SIEW as the only conference at the tradeshow developed for the downstream, refining and petrochemical sectors. However, this will be the first time EMART is being brought outside of Europe. It will run from 3-4 November 2011, with Downstream Asia from 1-2 November 2011.
Downstream Asia and EMART Asia are organised by the World Refining Association and Synergy, respectively, under the Clarion Events Pte Ltd group.
