Singapore, 30 April 2012 – The Energy Market Authority (EMA) announced this week that the theme for the 2012 Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) will be "Shaping a New Energy Landscape".

SIEW, an annual event that is into its fifth year, will take place from 22 to 25 October at the Marina Bay Sands Conference Centre.

The theme underscores the need for new frameworks and policy directions to tackle the world's energy challenges against the backdrop of a rapidly evolving global landscape.

Said Mr Chee Hong Tat, Chief Executive of EMA: "Since 2008, the Singapore International Energy Week has been a useful platform for dialogues and collaborations among thought-leaders, senior government officials and industry leaders from around the world. For 2012, we hope to facilitate discussions between governments and businesses on shaping a new energy landscape and to promote greater public-private partnerships in the energy sector."

SIEW 2012 will touch on critical issues such as options for the future energy mix; reducing carbon emissions and mitigating the impact of climate change; financing of energy projects and investments; and exploring the increasing linkages between food, water and energy.

In 2011, SIEW was attended by more than 21,000 participants and 550 exhibitors from over 60 countries. Luminaries included Mr Nobuo Tanaka, former Executive Director of the International Energy Agency; Energy Ministers from Southeast Asia, the United Arab Emirates and Europe; as well as top corporate leaders from leading energy companies such as Mr Peter Voser (CEO of Royal Dutch Shell) and Mr Jose Gabrielli (former CEO of Petrobras).
