The 2012 Platts Top 250 Global Energy Company Rankings--with Asian companies surging upwards--was revealed at the 7th annual Platts Top 250 Asia Awards Dinner, held as part of SIEW 2012 on Tuesday night. China had 23 companies in the listing, more than any other nation save for the US. India saw 12 companies representing six different energy sectors in the Top 250.
The 2012 rankings reflect fiscal 2011 financial performance in four key areas: Asset value, revenues, profits, and return on invested capital (ROIC).
Asia-Pacific companies accounted for 30 of the 50 Fastest Growing Companies based on a three-year compound growth rate (CGR). Cairn India topped the global fastest-growing ranks, with a three-year CGR of 119.8 percent.
Larry Neal, President of Platts, said: "The fact that these Asian companies are outperforming themselves year after year is a testament to the region's enormous growth and energy demand."
Delivering the Keynote Address at the dinner, Ith Praing Cambodia's Secretary of State for the Ministry of Industry, Mines & Energy, commented on the impact of SIEW in bringing policymakers and commercial leaders together. He said their combined insights and perspectives has assured exhibitions and discussions, which have made a significant contribution to the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW)'s goal of shaping a new energy landscape.
He said ASEAN nations, in the spirit of greater regional integration, have been committed to balancing energy security, economic competitiveness and sustainable practices. Despite challenges of energy and food security, as well as natural disasters, ASEAN Ministers--meeting in Phnom Penh last month for the ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM)--had reiterated efforts to address climate change by promoting a greener ASEAN energy sector and a low carbon economy.
