Towards a Hybrid AC-DC Transmission Grid
The continued growth of renewables will require transmission grids to change fundamentally, in order to address issues around reliable, affordable and sustainable energy. Learn more about the challenges involved here...
The continued growth of renewables globally will require transmission grids to change fundamentally and move towards a future Supergrid that delivers reliable, affordable, and sustainable electric energy in the right quantity, at the right time, and at the right place.
High-voltage direct current (HVDC) technology – in the form of so-called Hybrid Grids – will play a central role in this transition, but there are immediate and anticipated challenges to be addressed.
A new report from DNV GL, “Towards a Hybrid AC/DC Transmission Grid”, outlines these challenges and the necessary developments in HVDC technology, in order to realise the Hybrid Grid for a reliable, affordable, and sustainable power supply to society.
