Solar in the U.S. is poised for a breakout 2016, with more new electricity-generating capacity than any other sources.

Statistics released last week by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) indicate that planned installations for 2016 include 9.5 gigawatts of utility-scale solar. This does not take into account fast-growing rooftop solar, which is expected to add several gigawatts of capacity as well.
