The world’s energy future is not just about growth, it also is about using energy far more efficiently. Without efficiency gains, ExxonMobil estimates in its report “The Outlook for Energy: A View to 2040” that global energy demand would grow not by 35 percent, but by 140 percent, from 2010 to 2040.

The future will also be marked by a shift to lower-carbon fuels, a plateau in CO2 emissions and technologies that open up new energy options. Future energy trends can be traced by focusing on the following three groups: (1) China and India, (2) ten identified “Key Growth” countries and (3) the OECD countries.

The report also shares more on the evolving consumer demand in transportation, residential and commercial, industrial, emissions, electricity and power generation, as well as diverse energy sources.
