What are Asia’s new energy realities? How can we build a low-carbon future and bridge the financing gap? Is there still a role for oil and gas? DEW Journal shares more in its SIEW 2016 report...

2016 saw an oil and gas supply overhang keeping energy prices down for a longer period than most had expected. This has discouraged new upstream investments, which would impact future supply. At the same time, the Paris Agreement following COP21 has given new impetus to renewables. Innovative technology has also continued to make energy production, systems and networks smarter, heralding new possibilities.

Against this backdrop, the world's leading energy institutions, industry platforms, top policymakers, professionals, industry players and energy practitioners convened at SIEW 2016 in Singapore to discuss these trends and their implications for consumers, industries, economies, the community and the environment.

Drilling and Exploration World (DEW) Journal recently published a special report that captured and analysed these conversations, including insights from the Singapore Energy Summit (SES) on:

  • Asia’s new energy realities
  • The outlook for gas
  • Building a low-carbon future
  • Bridging the energy infrastructure financing gap

The report also highlighted the inaugural Energy Access Forum (EAF), co-organised by the Energy Market Authority (EMA) of Singapore and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) to facilitate opportunity creation in support of the region’s efforts to enhance energy access and exchange best practices on:

  • Addressing the energy access challenge in Asia
