Speaking at the SIEW Summit, Rahul Gupta, Associate Partner & Senior Expert, McKinsey & Company, unveiled insights from McKinsey’s Global Energy Perspective 2025 report. This year's outlook highlights how energy security, affordability and emissions reduction remain core priorities in the energy transition.

Fossil fuels are set to remain central to Asia’s energy mix well beyond 2050, especially natural gas as a transition fuel alongside renewables. McKinsey estimates that Asia will account for 75% of global gas demand growth through 2040—underscoring its role in supporting energy security.

While solar, wind, and storage technologies are advancing rapidly, clean hydrogen and sustainable fuels will remain commercially limited without stronger policy support. McKinsey stressed the need for a pragmatic approach decarbonisation. Asia’s path forward, Mr Gupta noted, will be shaped not just by innovation, but by resilience, readiness and pragmatism.
