ABOUT THE SINGAPORE ENERGY AWARD
The biennial SEA was launched by the Energy Market Authority (EMA) to recognize organizations and individuals that have made contributions to Singapore’s energy sector and society, through achievements in the areas of capability development and/or innovation.
Through the SEA, EMA hopes to inspire forward-looking organisations and future leaders to focus on strategies and solutions that will address many challenges faced by the sector.

AWARD CATEGORIES
There are two award categories – “Organisation” and “Individual”. This provides opportunities to recognise companies, research institutes, professionals, entrepreneurs and young individuals (such as students) across the energy sector. This energy sector includes, but is not limited to, the relatively more established Power and Oil and Gas sectors, as well as the emerging Energy Efficiency and Clean and Renewable Technology sectors.
EVALUATION CRITERIA
- Establishing new benchmarks and/or models in capabilities development and innovation;
- Exhibiting outstanding leadership and governance through vision and dedication to transform the energy industry and community;
- Demonstrating successful implementation, taking into account the scalability and sustainability of the initiatives; and
- Sharing of knowledge that benefits industry stakeholders and/or social communities.
JUDGING PROCESS
Nominations and applications for the SEA were reviewed through a two-tier process. The first tier is by an Evaluation Committee, which assessed all submitted nominations and recommended shortlisted nominees to the Judging Panel which forms the second tier process. The Judging Panels comprised both local and international representatives from diverse backgrounds, including energy, media, academia, human capital and Government. The shortlisted nominees were evaluated based on a set of disclosed evaluation criteria. (Refer to Annex B for the composition of the Judging Panel).

Annex A

Individual Category Award Recipient - Mr. Quek Poh Huat, Senior Adviser, Singapore Power
- Established the Singapore Power Training Institute as one-stop training centre for the power sector, benefitting 1,450 participants from various sectors in 2012;
- Chaired the Power Sector Manpower Taskforce whose recommendations to develop capabilities for the power sector were accepted by the Government in 2013;
- Supported the bond-free UPAGE21 (Union of Power and Gas Employees) Sponsorship Scheme which enabled 432 SP employees to pursue certificate or diploma courses;
- Championed the establishment of Singapore Power’s Energy Efficiency Centre to educate the public on the importance of energy conservation; and
- Led initiatives to strengthen Singapore’s grid reliability, such as using innovative application of technology to monitor condition of assets and prevent equipment failure. Singapore topped 22 global cities in network performance, network efficiency and the best value for customers in a survey by DNV KEMA Energy & Sustainability.

Organisation Category Award Recipient – Senoko Energy Pte Ltd
- Engaged the community actively to increase awareness about energy and sustainability-related issues, through competitions such as the Senoko Sustainability Challenge;
- Visits by schools to Senoko Energy has benefitted close to 1,900 students from more than 70 educational institutions from 2008 – 2012;
- Established the Corporate and School Partnership Programme which provided attachment training opportunities for teachers and students from 18 schools across Primary to Junior College levels; and
- Invested more than $2 million to-date in community outreach programmes such as Senoko Sustainability Challenge and exhibition on electric vehicle at Science Centre.

Special Mention Award Recipient – Energy Carta
- The first local tertiary energy club founded in 2008;
- Engaged more than 1,500 local and international youths actively through various platforms, including:
- Conferences (e.g. Asian Youth Energy Summit);
- Games (e.g. Changing the Game); and
- Business Case competition (e.g. Chevron Case Challenge).
- Raised over $170,000 in sponsorships from major companies such as PowerSeraya, Chevron, GE Energy, Sembcorp and Singapore Airlines to support their various outreach activities.
