At the Asia Hydrogen & LNG Markets Conference, Ms Low Yen Ling, Minister of State, Ministry of Culture, Community, and Youth and Ministry of Trade and Industry said Singapore aims to make hydrogen a globally viable and cost-effective commodity. This would involve:
- Collaborating with industries for hydrogen deployment
- Putting in place infrastructure and a global supply chain
- International cooperation on policies and regulations
- Investing in R&D in low carbon hydrogen technologies
- Promoting collaboration to reduce costs and achieve breakthroughs

Dr Tan also spoke at the Singapore-IRENA High-Level Forum, where he shared that according to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)'s Renewable Energy Outlook for ASEAN, the region has the potential to fulfill up to two-thirds of its energy demand through renewable sources and reduce emissions by 75 percent by 2050. He felt that regional interconnections can not only facilitate the deployment of renewable energy, but also generate significant cost savings, potentially reaching up to US$160 billion.
