Welcome to SIEWCast, a high-level thought-leadership platform launched in commemoration of the 15th Anniversary of the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) in 2022.

Back for a second season, SIEWCast is produced by the Energy Market Authority (EMA), in collaboration with Singapore Press Holding’s MONEY FM 89.3 and in partnership with ExxonMobil.

This year, the series will continue to bring together energy thought leaders who will share their views on their Net Zero energy transition through to 2050, as well as their strategic insights into our energy future. Each episode will deep dive into a key aspect of the energy sector across different topics, including natural gas, electrification, renewables such as solar, emerging low-carbon alternatives like hydrogen, regional power grids, energy efficiency and energy finance.

Season 2 (2023) Episodes:

Episode 3: Leading the charge towards cleaner energy solutions

Oct 11, 2023, 16:09 PM
Title : Episode 3: Leading the charge towards cleaner energy solutions

How is ExxonMobil propelling the energy transition towards a net zero future? In the third episode of SIEWCast, join Money FM’s Michelle Martin as she engages Geraldine Chin, Chairman and Managing Director, ExxonMobil Asia Pacific to discuss the initiatives the company is taking to drive this crucial transformation.

Show Notes:

In this episode, we discuss…

  1. How energy demand is projected to grow
  2. ExxonMobil’s ongoing efforts to develop low carbon solutions
  3. ExxonMobil’s plans to make lower-emission fuels more widely available
  4. Key aspects for a successful energy transition

Key takeaways

03:55 |

Energy demand will increase as countries continue to develop. ExxonMobil estimates that global energy demand is going to grow by about 15% by 2050.

04:29 |

Singapore has to look at solutions beyond renewables. ExxonMobil is exploring solutions such as carbon capture sequestration, various forms of hydrogen, and low-emission fuels including biofuels.

05:20 |

ExxonMobil has been working in the region to find opportunities to put together carbon value chains for carbon capture and storage. It signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nippon Steel and Mitsubishi Corporation to study carbon capture and storage (CCS) and the establishment of potential CCS value chains in the Asia Pacific.

06:54 |

ExxonMobil also signed an MoU with Keppel Infrastructure to develop access to low carbon hydrogen and ammonia. This supports Singapore’s National Hydrogen Strategy to develop hydrogen as a major decarbonisation pathway, to support Singapore’s international climate commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

07:24 |

ExxonMobil is providing lower-emission fuels such as biofuels available in Singapore. Last year, it started to supply sustainable aviation fuels at Changi Airport for several airlines.

ExxonMobil has also made renewable diesel available in Singapore and has sold bio-based fuel to marine vessels.

09:02 |

Technology advancement, supportive government policies to catalyse demand for lower carbon products, and skilled talent in engineering and science are needed to achieve a successful and sustainable energy transition.
