The Youth Energy Showcase aims to inspire and empower Singapore youth to take an active role in energy.
The Youth Energy Showcase presents exciting projects by youths in Singapore and is a testament to Singapore youth’s creativity and capability in seeking solutions to forge a sustainable energy future.
This year, 19 academic institutions responded with 19 innovative energy projects.

More than 250 of Singapore’s energy-conscious students convened at Singapore International Energy Week 2014 on Wednesday to discuss the future with Second Minister for Home Affairs and Trade and Industry S. Iswaran and Peter Schwartz, a noted futurist and senior vice president at Salesforce.com.
The session – In Dialogue with Youth – focused on Singapore’s energy situation, including its lack of domestic resources and the need for affordable electricity and environmentally sustainable power.
“The reality for us in Singapore is that we will have to use a variety of sources – gas, solar, and a few others,” said Minister S. Iswaran. “Energy efficiency – using less energy or using energy smarter – is a very important energy source for us as well. It means you can do more with what you have, and all of us can contribute to that”.
Students from Dunman High School, Raffles Girls’ School and National University of Singapore offered potential steps to improve Singapore’s energy security, ranging from the ASEAN Power Grid and solar energy integration to in-school conservation and applying game-design thinking to energy efficiency.
As part of efforts to develop talent for the power sector, several students were presented with Energy-Industry Scholarships, which were launched in January 2014 and are co-funded by the government and power companies. At the ceremony, Iswaran honoured:
- Muhammad Rafiuddin Bin Samsudien: ITE Full-Term Scholarship Award by Singapore LNG Corporation
- Noor Nashriyah Binte Jalil: Polytechnic Mid-Term Scholarship Award by Singapore LNG Corporation
- Teo Wen Xuan: Polytechnic Mid-Term Scholarship Award by YTL PowerSeraya
- Tay Wei Jia: University Mid-Term Scholarship Award by Singapore Power
Youth@SIEW also featured The Youth Energy Showcase to inspire and empower young Singaporeans to take an active role in energy.
Eighteen academic institutions – ITE College Central, ITE College West, ITE College East, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic and National University of Singapore – showcased 18 projects that seek to forge a sustainable energy future.
Singapore Power, Shell, Volkswagen and other companies also participated, demonstrating their role in advancing the state of energy in Singapore.
