EMA's inaugural Distinguished Speaker Programme will present a public lecture on "The Dynamics of the Electricity Industry" with speaker Tan Sri Leo Moggie. This will take place on 29 April 2011, from 9am-10.30am, at the Hotel Intercontinental's Bugis Grand Ballroom.
The Chairman of Tenaga Nasional Bhd has been chair of a number of companies under the Tenaga Nasional Group since 12 April 2004.
He has been sitting as an Independent Director on the boards of DiGi.Com Bhd since 10 May 2005 and of the New Straits Times Press (NSTP) since 27 February 2008. He was a Minister in the Malaysian Federal Cabinet from 1978 until retiring in 2004 as the Minister of Energy, Communications and Multimedia.
Born in Sarawak on 1 October 1941, Tan Sri Moggie graduated with an MA in History from the University of Otago, New Zealand, in 1965, and later with an MBA from the Pennsylvania State University, US, in 1973. He was conferred the Honorary Doctorate of Laws by Otago University in 2000, and the Honorary Doctorate of Science by Multimedia University Malaysia in 2003.

In the moderator's seat will be Raju Gopalakrishnan, Bureau Chief, Singapore and Malaysia, Thomson Reuters. This veteran journalist has been covering the news since 1981. He has been with Reuters for almost 20 years, starting in India and later working in Hong Kong, Indonesia and the Philippines, before returning to Singapore/Malaysia in 2010.
Notable events that Gopalakrishnan covered during his career included the destr uction of the Ayodhya mosque, insurgencies in Punjab and Kashmir, the Asian financial crisis in 1997/98, the overthrow of the Suharto regime, the impeachment and ouster of President Joseph Estrada, and the coup attempts against his successor, Gloria Arroyo.
