The SIEW team on 31 March bid farewell to EMA's Chief Executive of nearly three years, Lawrence Wong, who will be embarking on a new direction. Under his leadership, the Energy Market Authority saw a number of new initiatives put in place to secure a more sustainable energy future for the city-state. These included the week-long annual energy forum Singapore International Energy Week, now into its fourth year.

Effective 9 May, Chee Hong Tat, 37 (picture above), current Principal Private Secretary to the Minister Mentor, will step in as the new CE. With his wealth of experience in various policy and management positions at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Education, Chee will continue to blaze new pathways with the EMA torch lit by Wong.

In a press release, Ravi Menon, Permanent Secretary for MTI, gave accolades to the outgoing CE and incoming designate. "Lawrence has been an excellent CEO at the Energy Market Authority. He has laid strong foundations for our energy security, spearheaded several initiatives to broaden our energy options, and built up EMA's capabilities as an organization.

"MTI thanks him for his strong contributions and wishes him the best in his future endeavours. We are delighted that Hong Tat is taking over the helm at EMA. He brings with him a wealth of management and policy experience. We welcome him to the MTI family."
