Solar in the U.S. is poised for a breakout 2016, with more new electricity-generating capacity than any other sources.

Statistics released last week by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) indicate that planned installations for 2016 include 9.5 gigawatts of utility-scale solar. This does not take into account fast-growing rooftop solar, which is expected to add several gigawatts of capacity as well.

This article in The Washington Post shares more on the reasons behind the solar surge, and the outlook for the sector in 2016 and the near future.
