The 2nd Global Ministerial Conference on System Integration of Renewables, co-hosted by Singapore and the International Energy Agency (IEA) on 27 October, provided the platform to address critical issues in renewables integration and power system resilience—with a focus on developments in the Asia Pacific region.

The conference started with the opening remarks from Dr Tan See Leng, Second Minister for Trade and Industry & Manpower, Singapore. Dr Tan noted that while renewables adoption continues to gain traction, more needs to be done to encourage the integration of clean energy solutions in the wake of the global pandemic.

Speaking at the launch of the IEA’s Electricity Security Report, Dr Fatih Birol, IEA Executive Director, touched on the policy approaches and infrastructure investments that will help propel the transition to clean and carbon-free electricity generation.

The first panel session looked at measures undertaken by governments and the private sector to enhance renewable electricity uptake and integration.
