Cyril Pinel was appointed Director of European and International Affairs at the Institut de Radioprotection et de Sûreté Nucléaire (IRSN) in January 2018. He was previously the Nuclear Counsellor at the French Embassy in London. A lawyer by training, he started his career at the French Atomic Energy Commission and then became Nuclear Attaché to the Permanent Representation of France to the United Nations in Vienna, Austria. From 2002 to 2005, he held the position of Nuclear Counsellor at the Permanent Representation of France to the European Union in Brussels. From 2006 to 2009, he was the Director of International Relations at the French Nuclear Safety Authority. From 2009 to 2011, Cyril Pinel was Special Advisor for nuclear affairs at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2011 to 2014, he joined the French Embassy in Washington DC as the Nuclear Counsellor, covering the United States and Canada
