Mr. Sakai Yasuyuki was appointed State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and State Minister of Cabinet Office (in charge of support for Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan) on September 15, 2023.
Mr. Sakai joins METI from the House of Councillors, the upper house of Japan’s National Diet, where he has represented his constituency in Aichi Prefecture in central Japan for a decade. During his time in the Diet, Mr. Sakai has played a leading role on several key policy committees including chairing the Cabinet Committee and Financial Affairs Committee. Mr. Sakai also served as Parliamentary Vice-Minister of the Cabinet Office from 2015 to 2016.
Prior to entering the National Diet in 2013, Mr. Sakai served as an elected public official in the Aichi Prefectural Assembly and the Kariya City Assembly since 1995.
Mr. Sakai is a graduate of Nihon University College of Art. He was born on February 14, 1952, in Aichi Prefecture.
