Mme. Bounkham Vorachit currently serves as the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment and Chairperson of the Lao National Mekong Committee, roles she has held since 2021. In these capacities, she plays a key role in shaping national environmental policies and advancing regional cooperation within the Mekong River Basin.
Her career in environmental governance has been marked by a steady rise through leadership positions. Starting as a technical officer in 1996, Mme. Bounkham joined the Environment Division in 2000 as Deputy Director, later advancing to Deputy Director General and Director General of the Environment Department. In 2014, she was appointed Vice Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, further solidifying her leadership in the sector.
Mme. Bounkham holds a Master’s Degree in Agriculture Resources and Environmental Management from Thailand and a Doctorate in Business Administration from National Economics University in Hanoi, Vietnam. Her academic and professional background reflects a deep commitment to natural resource management and sustainable development.
