Peter Wong

Mr Peter Wong is currently the Managing Director of The Hong Kong and China Gas Co. Ltd. and has held a broad range of senior management positions since joining the Group in 1997, initially as its Financial Controller. He processes over 47 years of experience in the fields of energy, corporate finance, management and international work. He was named one of the “Best CEOs of Chinese Listed Companies” by Forbes in 2012 and 2013.

Mr Wong holds directorships in various subsidiaries of the Group. He is also an Executive Director and the Chief Executive Officer of Towngas Smart Energy Company Limited, and a director and the Vice Chairman of Shenzhen Gas Corporation Ltd. and Foran Energy Group Co., Ltd.

Before assuming his current role, Mr Wong played a pivotal role in the development of the Group’s mainland utilities business, operating from its headquarters in Shenzhen, China, since 2002. He was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Company in 2013 and as Deputy Managing Director of the Company in 2021, and has been Managing Director since 2022. Mr Wong has led Towngas in maintaining a highly reliable and reasonably priced gas supply while meeting environmental requirements, and in making significant contributions to the growth and prosperity of Hong Kong.

He is a chartered professional accountant of Canada, a certified public accountant of Hong Kong and a chartered company secretary and chartered governance professional in both Hong Kong and the United Kingdom. He is also a Fellow of The Hong Kong Institute of Directors and a Fellow of The Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers of the United Kingdom. He completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in the United States.

Mr Wong has held a number of different community service and advisory positions, contributing his experience and expertise to the development of the energy industry and the society at large. He is a Council Member of the Employers’ Federation of Hong Kong. He is also the Chairman of the Advisory Board of The Hong Kong Management Association (“HKMA”) Global Centre for ESG Education and Research, a Council Member and a Member of the Executive Committee of HKMA. In the past, he was a director of the Certified Management Accountants Society of British Columbia, Canada and the president of its Hong Kong branch, a member of the Mainland Business Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

Mr Wong has been leading the Group to transform from a gas supply company to one of Asia's leading clean energy suppliers and quality service providers, with a focus on innovation and environmental friendliness. He has also dedicated himself to the area of decarbonisation by developing renewable energy such as solar power, hydrogen, green methanol and sustainable aviation fuel, all of which have made significant achievements in recent years.
