Mr Lochhead has been a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for 25 years.  Mr Lochhead was appointed Minister for Business in May 2024 and has previously served as Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Food and the Environment as well as Minister for Small Business, Innovation, Tourism and Trade.

His current portfolio includes driving forward Scotland’s international trade & investment strategy; support for Scotland’s key industrial sectors; and advancing Scottish Green Freeports.

Scotland’s ambitious climate change legislation sets a target date for net zero emissions of all greenhouse gases by 2045 while Scotland is pioneering the development and adoption of a range of renewable energy and low carbon technologies.

With 12,000km of coastline and more than 790 islands, Scotland has an abundance of natural resources. Combined with a rich history and experience in the offshore and marine sectors as well as world-class research and development facilities, Scotland is poised to be a world leader in renewables.

Scotland remains the best-placed country in Europe to realise carbon capture utilisation and storage (CCUS) on a commercial scale. The creation of a world-leading Energy Transition Zone will accelerate the delivery of net zero solutions and secure a strong economic future built on offshore wind, hydrogen, and CCUS.
