Zhang Jianhua, born in 1964, is the Administrator of the National Energy Administration of China. He holds a doctor’s degree of Engineering from the East China University of Science and Technology, and has over 30 years of working experiences in China's petroleum and petrochemical industry.

In July 1986, he joined the Shanghai Gaoqiao Petrochemical Company, becoming chief economic manager in May 1995 and assistant general manager in April 1999 respectively.

In February 2000, he was appointed as the assistant general manager of the Shanghai Gaoqiao Branch of China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation (Sinopec), and then general manager in September 2000.

In April 2003, he was appointed as the vice-president of the Sinopec. He also assumed a number of other important managerial positions.

In October 2016, he assumed the position of board director and general manager of the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC). He also held the position of vice-chairman and president of PetroChina Co Ltd.

Since November 2018, he has been the Administrator of the National Energy Administration of China.
