Dato’ Hamzah bin Hussin was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia in 2021, Dato’ Hamzah leads national efforts to advance Malaysia’s sustainable energy transition and fulfil the country’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) commitments. He drives renewable energy growth through flagship mechanisms such as the Feed-in Tariff (FiT), Net Energy Metering (NEM), and the Malaysia Renewable Energy Roadmap (MyRER), while overseeing impactful initiatives like Nikmat Untuk Rakyat (NUR) to achieve Malaysia’s renewable energy targets of 31% by 2025 and 40% by 2035.
A University of Malaya economics graduate and career Administrative and Diplomatic Officer since 2003, Dato’ Hamzah brings over two decades of government experience, with vast expertise in policy formulation, strategic planning, and governance. He previously served as Senior Private Secretary and Chief of Staff to several Malaysian Ministers, in the Prime Minister’s Department, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Home Affairs, and Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, where he played a pivotal role in high-level policy making and intergovernmental coordination.
Widely respected for his leadership, influence, and extensive network across public and private sectors, Dato’ Hamzah continues to champion Malaysia’s transition toward a resilient, inclusive, and low-carbon energy future.
