Maria Faury began her career in 1993 at CEA, where she led a research laboratory on decontamination processes. She then was appointed in 1999 as project leader of the CABRI program dealing with nuclear reactivity accidents. In 2003, she joined the Institut de Radioprotection et de Sûreté Nucléaire (IRSN) as head of the nuclear accident studies and experimental research department. In 2008, she returned to the CEA to lead a department working on nuclear fusion by magnetic confinement. In 2011, she was appointed Scientific Director of the energy sector within the General Directorate for Research and Innovation of the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research, and has served on the boards of various public institutions, including IRSN and ANDRA. In 2014, she was appointed Deputy Director of the Matter Sciences division, followed by Director of Research Infrastructures and International affairs for CEA's Fundamental Research division. She has represented France on numerous boards related to international research infrastructures and chaired the board of Eu-XFEL, a civil company under German law from 2018 to 2022. Vice-Chair of the Board of F4E (Fusion for Energy) the European Joint Undertaking for ITER, she chaired the Management and Administration Committee from 2020 to 2024. She joined EDF in November 2024 and is currently the head of the Strategic Committee for the nuclear sector.
