Sue-Ern Tan is the Head of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Regional Cooperation Centre in Singapore, the IEA’s first and only office outside its Paris headquarters. From this regional base, she leads the Centre’s mission to support Southeast Asian governments in addressing their most pressing energy challenges, including strengthening energy security, scaling up clean energy deployment, expanding regional power system integration and facilitating access to sustainable finance. A key focus of her work also includes cooperating with government, industry and multilateral organisation stakeholders to collectively respond to the energy security challenges of today and tomorrow.
Ms. Tan brings deep international experience across both the public and private sectors. Prior to joining the IEA, she held senior climate and energy roles at Shell, working in London, The Hague, and Singapore. Earlier in her career, she served as a ministerial adviser on energy in the Australian Government, held the role of Deputy CEO at a minerals industry association, and practiced as a lawyer.
She holds a degree from the University of New South Wales and was selected as an Eisenhower Fellow in the 2017 International Program, representing Australia. With a career at the intersection of policy, industry, and innovation, Ms. Tan is committed to advancing pragmatic, collaborative solutions for a resilient and inclusive energy future in Southeast Asia and beyond.
