Aalok Kumar

Aalok Kumar, Corporate Officer & Senior Vice President - Head of Global Smart City Business at NEC Corporation, and President & CEO, NEC Corporation India is responsible for spearheading the Global Smart Cities Business, building a global business and expanding NEC India’s business offerings across the country. With over 3 decades of experience in providing strategic direction to leading global brands across international markets including Japan, APAC and EMEA, Aalok holds a strong track record of driving growth through innovation and new business models.

Conferred with CEO of the Year 2023 by Economic Times and People’s CEO of the Year 2023 by People First, Aalok is a known face in Technology & Business domains. He is also one of the External Advisor on digital technology to Asian Development Bank (ADB), an elite group of 7 members comprising of industry experts, think tanks and academicians to further accelerate the utilization of digital solutions among ADB activities in Asia and Pacific.

Aalok’s journey with NEC began in March 2020 as the President and CEO at NEC Corporation India. After successfully completing a turnaround story for NEC in India, he was asked to replicate ‘In India for India – From India For Global’ mantra of developing solutions for society at a global scale, by becoming the Global Head of Smart Cities Business at NEC Corporation Japan.  

His diverse experience and continuous learning agility have prepared him to be open to and navigating new challenges. Prior to joining NEC, Aalok has been the Senior Vice President at McKinsey & Co., where he drove business transformation, strategy and was a growth specialist. Prior to McKinsey he was the Chief Growth Officer for APAC for GE Healthcare. 

Aalok is an alumnus of St’. Stephens College, Delhi and Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, a truly prudent and decisive leader, Aalok’s journey has been inspiring and noteworthy.
