In Southeast Asia, regional interconnectivity has become a key strategy to promote the development of renewable energy technologies and enhance opportunities for cross-border power trading. These initiatives require the establishment of resilient and high-efficiency power grids, regulatory frameworks and effective institutions. This session will discuss the strategic value and opportunities that regional connectivity can bring to promote economic growth, sustainable development and energy security in the region. 

• What are the key enablers for countries and companies to more effectively participate in enhancing regional connectivity?
• How can the private sector work with governments to coordinate planning and develop relevant frameworks to maximise the benefits of regional interconnections?
• How can we attract public and private investments so that developing countries and exploit the full benefits of cross-border regional interconnections?

The Feasibility Study on Regional Energy Connectivity in Southeast Asia is jointly conducted by Singapore and the United States to review existing and potential power interconnections in ASEAN, regional subsea interconnections, as well as the socioeconomic benefits of regional energy connectivity. The study is intended to facilitate the development of the ASEAN Power Grid initiative, as well as support regional efforts to deploy renewable energy and collectively decarbonise. At this session, Dr. Peter F Green, Deputy Laboratory Director and Chief Research Officer of the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory, will present the key findings and analyses of the first phase of the study.

The global energy system is in transition. Hear from eight local start-ups from this year’s Shell StartUp Engine cohort about how they are contributing to a net-zero future for Singapore, and the world.

Shell StartUp Engine (SSE) is a global innovation programme, with a Singapore chapter targeted at early to mid-stage local energy start-ups. Through a six-month accelerated programme, SSE aims to build up  start-ups’ capabilities and networks, positioning them for success in the smart, clean energy landscape. SSE is in line with Shell’s ambition to become a net-zero emissions energy company by 2050, and supports the national agenda of sustainable development.
