What are some ways to accelerate the use of renewable energy and hydrogen in the energy transition towards a Net Zero world? SIEWCast is back in its second year and kicking off the first episode, Money FM’s Michelle Martin speaks to Janice Bong, Managing Director, Power & Renewables, Keppel Infrastructure. Tune in to hear the latest updates on its decarbonisation initiatives and the importance of regional collaboration.

Show Notes:

In this episode, we discuss…

  1. Keppel’s plans to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy and promote a more resilient and interconnected energy ecosystem.
  2. The need for regional collaboration among key stakeholders in ASEAN.
  3. Singapore’s first hydrogen-ready cogeneration plant and its impact.
  4. Keppel’s strategic approach to harnessing hydrogen’s potential.

Key takeaways

01:42 |

Important to look at the feasibility and competitiveness of bringing hydrogen into Singapore to support Singapore’s lack of natural renewable energy sources.

02:07 |

As part of the Lao PDR-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore Power Integration Project (LTMS-PIP), Keppel signed an agreement to import renewable energy from Laos into Singapore in 2022. Since last year, more than 260GWh has been imported.

This inaugural electricity import provides a foundation for Singapore to tap into the regional ASEAN Power Grid and contributes to the country’s plans to import up to 4 gigawatts of low-carbon electricity by 2035.

04:09 |

Energy transition is a journey where all stakeholders need to collaborate. Close collaboration among all partners in the ecosystem will better support the realisation of a large-scale long-term power trade.

05:35 |

Singapore’s first hydrogen-ready cogeneration plant, the Keppel Sakra Cogen Plant, is expected to be ready in the first half of 2026 and help save up to 220,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.

07:19 |

Keppel will leverage its track record in developing and operating large scale infrastructure projects to harness the potential of hydrogen for deep industrial decarbonisation. It plans to continue working with like-minded partners on supply chains for low carbon, hydrogen and hydrogen derived fuels such as green ammonia.
