Professor Chris Fogwill
Cranfield University
Chris joined Cranfield University as Pro-Vice Chancellor and Head of the School of Water, Energy and Environment in October 2021. Prior to that appointment at Cranfield University Professor Fogwill was Director of Keele University’s Institute for Sustainable Futures (ISF). The ISF is a multidisciplinary research institute that focusses on the development of new technologies and research that aim to reduce CO2 emissions through the development of Smart Energy Grids, renewables, and the pioneering use of hydrogen within Keele University’s unique Living Laboratory. As ISF Director Professor Fogwill helped drive research in three of the most innovative low-carbon ‘at scale’ smart energy demonstration projects in Europe, SEND, HyDeploy and Zero Carbon Rugley. These multimillion-pound projects are leading the UK’s ambitions to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, and provide a blueprint for the role University’s can take in defining our journey to net zero, in partnership with companies including Siemens, ENGIE, ITM, Cadent Gas and 100’s of SME’s across the UK. Also, as a leading climate scientist and Earth Systems Modeller Chris’ research on climate change has been instrumental in defining the linkages between the Earth’s great ice sheets, climate and global sea level in the past and crucially into the future. Key to this is his leadership of within groups such as ANTCLIM21 climate projection network, and the PRECISE Network which he leads, a network dedicated to improved projections of sea level rise across the Pacific and Indian Oceans.
