Vincent Lau is a serial entrepreneur and seasoned technologist with diverse knowledge ranging from cloud computing and IoT technologies to photovoltaic and energy management systems.
He is currently the Chief Technology Officer of Pylon City, an EnergyTech startup that focuses on making cities greener and more sustainable. The startup partnered with the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in 2018 to trial Singapore’s first electric bike sharing service, fuelled by its solar-powered charging station on campus. Pylon City, was also part of Cohort 3 of the Shell IdeaRefinery Programme, and was awarded a grant by Shell-EMA to develop Sustainable Charging Infrastructure for EVs and UDVs in July 2021.
He is concurrently the CEO of Massive Infinity, a tech venture studio focused on ESG goals, and the CEO of Allocate Space, its PropTech subsidiary. In 2019, Allocate Space helped made the Funan mall car-friendly when it reopened, by enabling the first-of-its-kind reservable parking lots in Singapore. In 2021, Allocate Space partnered Burztech to launch private and affordable work-study pods at Keat Hong CC, and in 2022 it helped enabled a living lab on smart and energy-efficient work spaces for NTU Ecolabs.
Vincent is also an Adjunct Lecturer of the NUS Institute of System Science since 2014, where he co-develops curricula and teaches modules on Strategic Product Market Fit, Architecting Platforms as a Business, as well as Innovation Leadership and Innovation Ecosystem for the Master of Technology in Digital Leadership. Additionally, he has worked with the Singapore e-Government Leadership Centre to deliver modules on the Introduction to the Startup Ecosystem of Singapore and the Role of the Government in Supporting a Startup Ecosystem.
As an IoT enthusiast, Vincent actively promotes the technology as the Vice-President of the IoT Chapter in the Singapore Computer Society (SCS), and has recently launched the WSQ Internet of Things (IoT) Based Energy Management for Solar Systems course with the Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore (SEAS) to train new generations of Solar Technologists.
As one of the pioneers of the World’s first standard on Last Mile Delivery (TR46), Vincent was a member of the TR46 Standard Working Committee, and is currently the Chairman of the Digital Commerce Interest Group in the Electrical, Electronics and Allied Industries (EEAI) Industry Group of the Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF). Since May 2019, Vincent is also concurrently a Member of the Technology and Transformation Function Committee and Co-Chair of the Manufacturing Technology Advancement Group, as part of a collaboration between SMF, SCS and IMDA to spearhead job role evolution in the manufacturing sector.
He was previously the SG CTO of Voyager Innovations, the tech subsidiary of PLDT that acquired his eCommerce startup PayWhere in August 2015. In that same year, his startup was given the accolade of the inaugural Top 10 Best Tech Company to Work For Award. Vincent was the Head of IP Strategy and Internationalization in Voyager, where he also contributed to its tech valuation efforts. Prior to leaving Voyager, KKR and Tencent (HKG: TCEHY) announced in September 2018 that they will be leading a USD$175 million investment in Voyager Innovations, with IFC investing another USD$40 million.
Vincent graduated from NTU with honours and distinction in Bachelor of Engineering (Materials Science) and a minor in Computing. For his contributions to NTU, Vincent is the proud recipient of the Nanyang Alumni Service Award (2015). He was also awarded the Nanyang Outstanding Young Alumni Award (2017) for his remarkable entrepreneurship achievements.
