In this visionary video at TED2010, Bill Gates, founder and former CEO of Microsoft, shares his one wish for the world – energy technology "that’s half the cost with no CO2 gets invented".
Innovations that have unbelievable scale and reliability, or what Gates calls "energy miracles", in fossil fuels, nuclear, and renewable resources namely solar thermal, solar photovoltaic and wind, are needed to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2050.
Such energy miracles are part of a four-factor equation which Gates cites as key to rapidly reducing carbon emissions from over 26 billion tons today to zero. The energy world will also need to examine three other factors, population, services and efficiency, if it wants to power breakthroughs in energy and climate change.
