The Housing & Development Board (HDB) and Neil McGregor, former chief executive officer of Singapore LNG Corporation (SLNG), were given the Singapore Energy Award on Monday for their outstanding contributions to the country’s energy sector.
“Beyond government initiatives, individuals and businesses play a key role in building a strong and vibrant energy industry,” said S. Iswaran, Minister of Trade and Industry (Industry), who presented the awards at Singapore International Energy Week 2015.
McGregor, now senior managing director of enterprise development at Temasek, was recognised in the Individuals category for helping to develop Singapore’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) ecosystem and for strengthening the country’s energy security. In his time at SLNG, McGregor was responsible for building Singapore’s first LNG terminal, which allowed the country to ship natural gas globally.
HDB stood out for its efforts to drive Singapore’s solar industry and was recognised in the Organisations category. The agency has been the prime mover of rooftop solar panels on residential buildings and has catalysed solar adoption and the development of Singapore’s solar expertise and technical capabilities.
