On 17 December 2015, the International Smart Grid Action Network (ISGAN), in partnership with the Global Smart Grid Federation (GSGF), launched its third Award of Excellence international competition. This competition aims to showcase leadership and innovation in smart grid projects around the world and improve global awareness of the value that smarter, cleaner electric grids can offer.
The theme for this year’s competition is “Smart Grids for Reliable Electricity Service", highlighting the critical role that smart grids can play in ensuring grid reliability and consistent electricity service. Smart grid technologies and approaches are a vital tool for reducing the frequency and duration of outages, increasing system reliability and saving time and money for electricity customers, utilities, and the society. This enables a more reliable grid, which has fewer and shorter interruptions of service and is better prepared to recover from adverse events like severe weather or malicious attacks.
