On 12 December 2015, an ocean of opportunities was opened up for clean energy as more than 190 countries reached consensus on the Paris agreement.
The certainty of the agreement is expected to unlock trillions of dollars by sending a long term signal to businesses that their investments will be supported by the move to a low carbon economy. Developed countries committed to $100 billion a year by 2020 to help developing countries scale up clean energy technologies.
The Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) recently published a research paper that examines how clean energy development can be made inclusive, addresses the extreme prevalence of energy poverty in several ASEAN countries, and analyzes how ASEAN economies are stepping up clean energy ambitions.
