With all the focus on climate change, there remains a high-yielding opportunity to do so by fitting energy efficient electric motors on all pumps and fans with devices to regulate their speed.
Electric motors are among the biggest energy consumers, accounting for about 40 percent of all electricity consumed worldwide. This proposed move would achieve energy savings roughly equivalent to the amount of electrical energy produced in the EU in 2013.
Hear more from Dr Ulrich Spiesshofer, CEO of ABB, in this interview with Industrial Automation Asia, on the importance of energy efficiency in reducing waste and impacting climate change in a positive way.
