China Set to Surpass Its Climate Targets As Renewables Soar

China is well on track to surpass its 2020 target to reduce carbon emissions per unit of national wealth (GDP) by 40 to 45 per cent from 2005 levels, based on the latest figures issued by China’s National Bureau of Statistics last week.

Clean energy – which comprises hydro, wind, solar, nuclear and natural gas – now account for 18 percent of the country’s energy, up from 11 percent in 2011, thanks to a surge in wind and solar.
