China's Big Plans to Integrate Renewable Energy into Electricity Grid

Electricity Grid

China holds many cleantech world records. It is the biggest renewable energy investor, has the largest installed capacity of wind and solar power and the fastest installation rate of new renewable energy generation.

The next step for China is to enable its electricity grid to absorb the power generated by renewables, or risk seeing its efforts go to waste. In 2015, 15 percent of China's wind energy and nine percent of its solar energy had to be curtailed because the grid was unable to absorb the power generated. To address this issue, China’s National Energy Administration (NEA) recently released a nine-point work plan.

Barbara A. Finamore, senior attorney and Asia director at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), recently shared on the Huffington Post about NEA’s work plan and how the NRDC is on board with this direction. Find out more on how China can build on past success to further its clean energy development here.
