In his presentation at SIEW TechTable, Andy Piepel, Vice President, 3M Global Electrical Markets Division, outlined how advanced materials and smart grid solutions can pave the way to a more resilient future in Asia.
As Asia’s electricity demand rises, driven by industrial growth, digitalisation and the rapid build-out of data centres, ensuring the reliability of the grid is crucial. Drawing on 3M’s solution portfolio, from underground connections to sensing and predictive maintenance, Mr Piepel set out a pragmatic pathway to make energy grids smarter and more resilient.
Mr Piepel also shared how cutting-edge materials science can help enhance energy security by enabling faster, safer and more reliable underground connections. This is critical for energy-intensive use cases such as data centres, where downtime is a challenge.
