IEA World Energy Outlook Special Report on Energy and Climate Change

climate change

196 countries committed to their climate pledges, or INDCs (“Intended Nationally Determined Contributions”) during the World Climate Change Conference 2015 (COP21), but what does this mean for the energy sector?

Energy production and consumption account for two-thirds of the world’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emission. Cuts to emissions from the energy sector must be significant enough for countries to achieve their pledges, while concurrently improving energy security and access, and sustaining economic growth.

Prior to COP21, IEA released the World Energy Outlook Special Report on Energy and Climate Change, which assesses the effect of recent low-carbon energy developments and the proposed INDCs. The report also outlines five measures that would achieve a near-term peak in global energy-related emissions while maintaining momentum for stronger national efforts.
