Singapore and Australia Energy Regulators to Strengthen Energy Cooperation

The Energy Market Authority (EMA) of Singapore and Australian Energy Regulator (AER) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Singapore International Energy Week 2025, to strengthen regulatory exchanges and energy cooperation.

2         The MOU provides a framework to promote cooperation and sharing of regulatory practices on gas and electricity markets. The MOU will also facilitate greater knowledge exchange on low-carbon technologies and deepen cooperation at multilateral platforms in support of the region’s energy transition. Activities under this MOU include knowledge and experience sharing, training and exchange programmes, as well as dialogues between EMA and AER.

3          Mr Puah Kok Keong, Chief Executive of EMA, said: “Energy regulators are at the heart of the energy transition and EMA is delighted to deepen our cooperation with the AER on regulatory best practices and low-carbon energy technologies. This builds on the excellent momentum of our bilateral energy cooperation and the 60th year of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Australia”.

4          Mr Justin Oliver, Deputy Chair of the AER, said: “The AER is proud to further its partnership with the Singapore Energy Market Authority and with regulators across the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. Through sharing expertise and experiences, we can strengthen efforts to support energy security and the energy transition across the region.”

About the Energy Market Authority

The Energy Market Authority (EMA) is a statutory board under the Singapore Ministry of Trade and Industry. Through our work, we seek to forge a progressive energy landscape for sustained growth. We aim to ensure a reliable and secure energy supply, promote effective competition in the energy market and develop a dynamic energy sector in Singapore. Visit www.ema.gov.sg for more information.

About the Australian Energy Regulator

The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) works to ensure energy consumers are better off, now and in the future. We do this by setting the maximum amount of revenue that monopoly energy networks can earn from consumers and monitor networks, wholesale and retail market performance and compliance with national energy legislation. We also set a price cap on standing energy contracts and provide a price comparison website – Energy Made Easy. Learn more at www.aer.gov.au.
