Overview

India’s demand for oil & gas, bolstered by rapid population & economic growth, has been increasing significantly over the last two decades. For a developing nation like India, huge dependency on energy resources poses a major challenge, since the projected requirements have to be met in an environment where domestic energy supplies are limited. Insufficient indigenous supply coupled with the geopolitical constraints in pipeline supplies has made LNG an increasingly important source of meeting the rising domestic energy demand. Today, imported natural gas meets approximately approx. 30% of the natural gas domestic consumption. As per estimates, by 2020, India is likely to emerge as the 3rd largest importer on LNG.

While India is emerging as major LNG market of future with all round development in LNG terminals and gas pipelines to attain desired sustainable growth, a comprehensive approach which can meet suppliers’ expectation on one side and meet consumers’ expectations on other side needs to be firmed up.
