There is enormous potential for energy efficiency initiatives to simultaneously boost energy security, enhance environmental sustainability and improve price competitiveness. This roundtable will address the importance of energy efficiency and conservation (EE&C) for all the sectors, particularly for the power generation industry. Discussions will cover the various policies and measures that are required to drive the successful implementation of energy efficiency initiatives.

The roundtable will then address how to further promote EE&C through close collaboration between both the public and the private sectors to ensure that policies dovetail with commercial strategies and solutions. In Japan, for example, maximising energy savings and reducing energy consumption is an urgent challenge. To achieve this, Japan is in the process of reviewing their tariff system, electricity market structure, regulations, financial schemes and business models. Drawing on these examples as well as initiatives from around the region, this roundtable aims to provide concrete ways forward to enhance EE&C through the exchange of best practices.
