TITLE Energizing the World with Clean Coal Technology
Clean, affordable electricity is vital for energizing developing and developed nations. Electricity powers modern living, drives the industrial growth and lifts hundreds of millions out of energy poverty. Coal is also a stable growing fuel, set to become the world’s largest energy source in coming years. Today’s high efficiency Integrated coal Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) plants have state - of- the art controls and ultra-low emission rates. Even the carbon dioxide emissions rate is 25-30% lower than older plants.
Every large plant that employs clean coal technology (CCT) - a term used to describe a new generation of energy process that sharply reduce carbon emissions and other pollutants, brings the equivalent of carbon benefit of removing 1 million cars from the road. It is estimated that wide spread deployment of clean coal technologies in developing Asia, which accounts for 60 % of total world production, will generate, 550,000 new jobs. But a critical element is the high capital cost of clean coal technologies.
Senior policy makers, industry executives and thought leaders will be invited for this round table to discuss the ways in which clean coal technology is impacting the regional energy markets, and ways in which policy frameworks public-private partnerships and financial mechanisms could be structured to accelerate its deployment.
