| Venue | Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands Singapore |
The Singapore-International Energy Agency (IEA) Forum will feature the Southeast Asia launch of the IEA World Energy Outlook (WEO) 2021. The World Energy Outlook provides a comprehensive view of how the global energy system could develop in the coming decades, exploring in detail the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the energy sector, and actions that could accelerate clean energy transitions. The launch will be followed by a panel discussion on driving the clean energy transition in developing Asia, especially its implications for Southeast Asia.
As one of the fastest-growing regions in the world, Southeast Asia’s energy demand in the next decades will continue to be driven by rapid economic growth, urbanisation and industrialisation. ASEAN has set out ambitious renewable energy and energy intensity reduction targets under the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation 2016-2025. Governments and the private sector have been intensifying their efforts to accelerate clean energy transitions in the region despite the unique challenges faced. Drawing on the 2021 World Energy Outlook, this session will deliberate on the actions needed as Southeast Asia transitions towards a low-carbon energy future.
- What are the opportunities and challenges faced in accelerating clean energy transitions in the region?
- What are the necessary frameworks and instruments that need to be in place to achieve this?
- What is the role of the private sector and investors in this regard?
- How do regional collaborations and public-private partnerships help to support the adoption of low carbon energy technologies?
