Highlights from SIEW Energy Insights

SIEW Energy Insights featured the latest reports launched by renowned international organisations on key energy issues. Speakers discussed more on the green grid and regional decarbonisation goals in a series of energising presentations.

In his opening remarks, Ngiam Shih Chun, Chief Executive of Energy Market Authority Singapore, highlighted the importance of tapping on the many growth opportunities that the energy transition will entail.

Speakers in the first panel discussion on the Lao PDR-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore Power Integration Project (LTMS-PIP) emphasised the need for regional cooperation in the energy sector. This is so countries can leverage on their collective strengths to work towards decarbonisation.

Next, Dr Fraser Thompson, Founder and Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) of Sun Cable, shared his insights on the role that interconnected electricity "green grids" can play in accelerating transmission of renewable electricity across Asia.

Dr Muhamad Azfar Ramli, Deputy Director, Systems Science Department IHPC, A*STAR, and Raymond Tan, CEO of RAITAN Pte Ltd, both discussed how research collaborations among ecosystem stakeholders are helping to accelerate development towards decarbonising the energy grid.

Subsequently, Anish De, KPMG's Global Head for Energy, Natural Resources, and Chemicals, discussed the issues surrounding carbon footprints and how the world can work towards net zero.

Carsten Dommermuth, Vice President and Managing Director APAC of INNIO, explored achieving output, efficiency, and emissions when operating on hydrogen fuel.

Next, six Singaporean start-ups from the Shell StartUp Engine cohort shared more about their innovations and how they are supporting Singapore’s sustainable future.

Dr Kazutomo Irie, President of the Asia Pacific Energy Research Centre (APERC), closed off SIEW Energy Insights by presenting the APEC Energy Demand and Supply Outlook 8th edition. This identified opportunities and challenges for the region’s energy sector.
