EMA and IAEA to Launch Inaugural IAEA@SIEW Forum

The Energy Market Authority (EMA) and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will launch the inaugural IAEA@SIEW Forum on 27 October 2026 at the 19th Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW). Held as part of the SIEW Summit, this year’s Forum will be centred on the theme “Atoms for Asia: Unlocking a Secure & Low-Carbon Future”.

With more countries exploring nuclear energy as a pathway to meet their energy security and climate goals, platforms such as the IAEA@SIEW Forum will play a key role in facilitating knowledge-sharing and informed discussions on nuclear energy. The Forum brings together policymakers, regulators, industry leaders, financiers and experts to examine how ASEAN and the wider region can safely and responsibly harness the potential of nuclear energy.

Across two panel sessions, this year’s discussions will delve into the policy frameworks, financing structures and international partnerships associated with nuclear power programmes, as well as the infrastructure, supply chain, workforce and institutional capabilities that would need to be developed. The Forum will also discuss the IAEA’s role in supporting countries considering nuclear power generation as part of their energy mix.

Dr Tan See Leng, Minister for Energy, Trade and Industry (Energy and Industry) will be the Guest-of-Honour at the Forum. The Forum will feature speakers from EMA and IAEA, as well as government and industry speakers from Canada, China, France, Korea, the United Kingdom, the United States, as well as financial institutions. The full programme and list of speakers are in the Annex.

IAEA@SIEW will build on Singapore’s efforts to develop capabilities in nuclear science, safety and technology. In May 2026, Singapore announced that an IAEA Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review (INIR) Phase 1 Mission will be conducted in 2027, to assist Singapore in evaluating its readiness to make an informed decision on the potential deployment of advanced nuclear energy technologies for power generation.

Puah Kok Keong, Chief Executive of EMA, said, “As global interest in nuclear energy grows, it is important to deepen international dialogue and share experiences on the safe and responsible development of nuclear energy. While Singapore has not made a decision on nuclear energy, there is value in learning from international experience as we continue to build our capabilities and assess its potential. We are pleased to partner with the IAEA to convene the inaugural IAEA@SIEW Forum to strengthen international cooperation and dialogue on the potential role of nuclear energy in the global energy transition.”

Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of IAEA, said, “Nuclear energy can help Asia meet its growing demand for reliable power. Confidence grows through institutions that demonstrate competence and openness early and over time. The IAEA is there to support a country’s journey from beginning to end.”

SIEW 2026 will take place from 26 to 30 October 2026. More information on the inaugural IAEA@SIEW Forum is available at www.siew.gov.sg.
