Asia Pacific Energy Regulatory (APER) Forum 

The Asia Pacific Energy Regulatory (APER) Forum is a biennial platform where energy regulators from 13 Asia Pacific countries come together to discuss key energy regulatory issues and to share knowledge on best practices.

Following the successful Extraordinary Meeting of the APER Forum on 14 August 2020, the Energy Market Authority will host the APER Forum meeting from 27 – 28 October 2021. This will be held in a hybrid format as part of the 14th Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW).

While low carbon energy sources are rapidly gaining ground, structural, policy and financing challenges remain. Gas, coal and electricity prices have surged in recent months leading to a power crunch globally. In Asia, LNG prices have rose to a record high of US$34.70, the highest since 2009. Several supply and demand factors, including the rebound of economic activity from COVID-19, the erratic weather patterns globally, and the decline in oil and gas production have contributed to the supply crunch. 11:20 – 12:00 hrs	Session 2: Enhancing System Integration of Renewables and Low-Carbon Technologies Clean and renewable energy is key to decarbonising our energy systems. While renewables are rapidly gaining ground, driven primarily by the declining cost, challenges such as the issue of intermittency remains. With the growth of technological solutions such as energy storage systems and hydrogen technologies, there is a stronger suite of options to enhance energy security and system reliability. This second session will address how regulators can leverage on the various technological innovations available and discuss regulatory best practices to enhance the integration of renewables.
