Against this backdrop, under the theme “Securing Tomorrow’s Energy Through Connected Systems”, the 10th Singapore-IEA Forum will explore how stronger connections across people, systems, and technologies can enhance resilience, flexibility, and long-term system stability. Bringing together policymakers, industry, and international partners, discussions will focus on regional cooperation, investment in resilient infrastructure, and the role of technology in supporting a secure and adaptable energy future for ASEAN and beyond.

Securing Tomorrow’s Energy: LNG, Gas and Energy Security As ASEAN’s energy demand continues to grow, ensuring secure, reliable and affordable energy supplies remains a key priority. While renewable energy deployment is accelerating, natural gas will continue to play a critical role as a bridging fuel to support system reliability and strengthening energy resilience during energy transition. The IEA notes that Southeast Asia is projected to contribute around 20% of global energy demand growth by 2035, underscoring the region’s growing importance in global energy markets. Recent developments have highlighted the continued vulnerability of global energy supply chains to disruptions along key shipping corridors. This panel will examine how governments, utilities and the private sector can strengthen energy security, diversify supply sources and manage market volatility while decarbonising. | 10:40 – 11:20 hrs | Strengthening Electricity Security through the ASEAN Power Grid As electricity becomes increasingly central to economic growth and digitalisation, ensuring secure and resilient power systems is important. Rising electrification growing demand from data centres and emerging technologies are reshaping how power systems are planned and operated. The IEA projected that electricity demand in Southeast Asia will continue rising strongly, while global data centre electricity consumption is expected to increase from about 415 TWh in 2024 to around 945 TWh by 2030, where AI is the single largest driver of this growth. The ASEAN Power Grid and cross-border power trade are critical enablers of regional electricity security. By strengthening interconnections and diversifying supply sources, the APG can improve system resilience. The panel will explore how governments, utilities and the industry can strengthen electricity security while supporting the energy transition. Discussions will examine the role of grid modernisation, energy storage, digital technologies in enhancing system flexibility. The panel will also consider how cross-border power trade, including progress made towards the ASEAN Power Grid (APG), can contribute to a more secure and resilient power system.
