Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS), NUS
As Chairman of the PV Asia Pacific Conference 2012, Prof Aberle will preside over a conference that will, among other topics, look at the latest scientific results that aim to reduce the cost of photovoltaic electricity, the reliability of PV modules and systems, as well as building-integrated PVs for Asian megacities.
Professor Armin Aberle is the CEO of the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and a tenured full professor in the university's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He holds a BSc/MSc, PhD and degrees in physics from German universities. His research focus is on reducing the cost of solar electricity generated with silicon solar cells, both wafer-based and thin film-based. He has published extensively over 300 papers and his work has a high impact on the field, with over 3,000 citations. He is an editor of several scientific-technical journals, including Progress in Photovoltaics and IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices. In 1990s, he established the Silicon Photovoltaics Department at the Institute for Solar Energy Research (ISFH) in Germany. He then worked for 10 years in Sydney, Australia, as a professor for silicon photovoltaics at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). In 2008, he joined the National University of Singapore (NUS) to establish SERIS, with particular responsibility for the creation of a Silicon PV Department.
