Dr. Bram Hoex

Director and Group Leader
Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore, Singapore (SERIS)

Dr Bram Hoex will speak on "Advanced Characterisation of Silicon Wafer Solar Cells". He has extensive experience in the area of processing and advanced characterisation of high-efficiency silicon wafer solar cells.

Dr Hoex was born and educated in the Netherlands. After graduating in Applied Physics from the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in 2003, he started his PhD research in the field of solar energy at the same university. During his PhD research he focussed on the development of processes and materials that can improve the efficiency of silicon wafer solar cells by the reduction of electronic and optical losses. Three processes developed during his PhD research are in various stages of commercialisation and his work has resulted in a 6 percent relative improvement in the world-record of an important type of silicon wafer solar cell. In 2008 he was awarded the Solarworld "Junior Einstein Award" and Leverhulme "Technology Transfer Award" for his work. After graduating in 2008, he joined the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS) at the National University of Singapore as head of the photovoltaic characterisation laboratory. He is also project manager of various (semi) industry funded projects in the area of high-efficiency silicon wafer solar cells.
